At some point in the next seasons, Mako and Korra will grow apart. He’s going to realize that he really only loves Asami and try to get her back. Asami will be hesitant at first, but after some time travelling the world together (or whatever is what they’ll do in the next books), she will start falling back in love with him too.

Hiroshi is very much against their relationship, and does everything in his power to prove to his daughter that Mako is nothing more than a street-rat not worth her time. In the end, it only serves to draw the two closer to each other.
